Press release

August 22, 2017, Rotterdam

On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, the promotion prize De Meester will be presented for the third time in Het Nieuwe Instituut. Fleur Groenendijk Foundation has created the annual architecture award in collaboration with the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture. The prize, for which only graduates of the academy are eligible, is intended to support the promotion of the work of the architect or urban planner and amounts to € 5000.00.

Based on the idea that architecture and urban planning are disciplines that, in addition to their academic relevance, are mainly the society, a new structure has been chosen for awarding the prize. The four nominated candidates will be asked to present their plans during a full evening and publicly accessible program, live to the public and the jury. The judges will respond to the presentations on the spot. The choice for the winner of De Meester 2017 will also be announced on the same evening.

The Rotterdam Academy of Architecture was founded on the idea that during the training for architect and urban planner no boundary can be drawn between the role of the designing and constructing ‘doer’ and the contemplative and critical ‘thinker’. The academy still follows this vision and trains the students to a craft that is socially anchored. By initiating stimulus prize De Meester, Fleur Groenendijk Foundation supports the vision of the academy.

“The winning of De Meester has opened closed doors, led to new development perspectives in this great field and the plan De Stadsoverlaat continues and the sequel is challenging, inspiring and motivates enormously to keep digging in the rich Dutch tradition of urban design. and civil engineering. “
